Thank you!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2479382718529718406.post-57545679698967200002022-09-06T19:01:19.700+01:002022-09-06T19:01:19.700+01:00This is THE song that I most associate with BC. So...This is THE song that I most associate with BC. Someone mentions BC and I immediately have to ask their favourite track, holding my breath until they say “Here Is The House”. Yes, everything else is fabulous, but this is THE song of the album and it’s an absolute travesty that it was never given the full live treatment. I remember my ten year old heart being gutted that they didn’t play it live at Expo 86. It was the song I was waiting for, and obviously Stripped and Question of Lust but HITH was the track I needed to hear live.

The acoustic version was an acoustic version that was inferior to the album version. Was it nice to hear? Yeah, but it really needed the album treatment to appreciate its brilliance and I can only imagine how amazing it would have been if they were able to sort the issues.

This track should have been a single or a B side to Stripped, seeing as they meld so beautifully together on the album. It’s placement in the track listing was perfection. We roll out with Question of Time, get our knickers melted with Stripped and then get a black cherry bubble bath for two. I don’t think I’ve seen a better trio of songs on any album that worked so effortlessly together. I can’t imagine it being placed anywhere else. The only trio that comes close is MFTM with NLMDA, TYS and SL. Black Celebration though, in my opinion had the best track arrangement of any of their albums.

This truly is a lost classic, and it’s one of their tracks that I can put on repeat and listen to it and nothing else for three months straight. It’s that level of perfection. BC has aged like fine wine, getting better with every listen and this sounds as fresh today as it did the first time I heard the clock ticking into that eargasmic opening. It’s the perfect song. Some might roll their eyes and point out less overtly poppy tracks; in the heart of the synthpop purist, this track dictates its beating.

Suffer Well and Hole To Feed are overplayed and should have never been played again after they recorded them. That the fans will never get the soaring feels of hearing this live is truly criminal. Like the sexiness of Dangerous and that part in Happiest Girl, there are some songs that scream out to be played live, so you can fully immerse yourself in it, mind, body and soul.

Here Is The House is truly a feast for all the senses and in my DM concert dreams, I sometimes hear it played in its album version glory. I'm so pleased that I read this article about it and had the chance to appreciate one of Depeche Mode's hidden gems.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06761561280627977753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2479382718529718406.post-52273923735267265512018-09-26T10:36:19.207+01:002018-09-26T10:36:19.207+01:00Hello! I believe Alan said that they sampled up strokes and down strokes and and the notes alternate between the two to give it that distinctive feel. I think you're referring to "Hank" the name they gave to the guitar sample in "People Are People" they used a coin to pluck the guitar string for that I believe ;-)

Regards
DaveAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2479382718529718406.post-24254312497307194562016-04-08T10:50:13.618+01:002016-04-08T10:50:13.618+01:00Thanks so much for this wonderful post, exactly my...Thanks so much for this wonderful post, exactly my thoughts of the song being "a lost classic". I love singing Martin's harmonies while listening to it over my headphones - must sound horrible, but one simply has to join in, it's brings such a feeling of sheer happiness and comfort. The Sweetest Perfection, so to say.

AnneAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2479382718529718406.post-80331985444104574312016-03-30T16:06:30.593+01:002016-03-30T16:06:30.593+01:00(ugh, I have a typo on "its")(ugh, I have a typo on "its")Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2479382718529718406.post-11387213657371988982016-03-30T16:05:55.089+01:002016-03-30T16:05:55.089+01:00I couldn't let this go by without a comment: i...I couldn't let this go by without a comment: if someone told me this was the most beautiful DM song, I wouldn't argue with them. It's certainly in my top five. Everything about it is just perfect. As someone else who's been listening to DM for 30+ years, you know what it's like to have a song of theirs inform your worldview and this one has meant so much to me throughout the years. It's lack of live play hasn't ever really bothered me – makes it seem more special, in fact – though I think the 1990 acoustic version was probably the most appropriate way to play it.

Also, by the way, I dunno if you've heard this but the lead line in the song actually is a guitar, played with a coin if I remember some random old interview correctly.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
